The Valuation Act 2001 provides for a revaluation of all commercial and industrial property in the State. The process began with the revaluation of properties in the Local Authorities of Fingal, South Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown. The Dublin City and Waterford City revaluations are currently underway.

A revaluation provides the rate payer with an opportunity to engage with the Valuation Office to insure a fair and accurate rateable valuation is applied to their property. The rateable valuation is based on the market rental value of the property at a prescribed valuation date. In the case of the Waterford City & County Revaluation the valuation date is 28th October 2011. It is important that the matter is addressed in a timely manner as there are strict timeframes and deadlines applied by the Valuation Office. Expert early advice is recommended.
